The Crew

Ric DeSantiago, PhD Student

I am a PhD student in the Joint Doctoral Program in Ecology between San Diego State University and University of California, Davis. I am broadly interested in community ecology in the rocky intertidal and salt marshes. More specifically, I would like to understand how multiple abiotic and biotic stressors, such as climate change and invasive species, affect herbivore communities along our coastlines.

Dr. Jeremy Long, Long Lab Primary Investigator

I am an ecologist interested in the relationships between plants and their herbivores, and how these interactions shape communities and ecosystems. Specifically, I study the importance of chemical signals to these dynamic interactions using a combination of field and laboratory experiments. My unique approach utilizes skills in behavioral assays of consumers (planktonic, benthic, and terrestrial), bioassay-guided fractionation of secondary metabolites of algae and invertebrates and mesocosm and field experiments.

Mackenna Denton, Undergraduate Researcher

I am a third year at San Diego State University. I strive to work for a big biotechnology company where I can practice my business and science skills. When I am not in the lab I enjoy traveling, music festivals, and lounging on the beach.
